念佛圆通偈
Verses [On] Mindfulness [Of] Buddha’s Perfect Penetration
念佛缘起偈
[1] Verses [On] Mindfulness [Of] Buddha’s Conditions [For] Arising
势至王子，与其同伦，
五十二位，皆大菩萨。
[Great] Power Arrived, [the Dharma] Prince, [was] with his similar peers [of] fifty-two, all Great Bodhisattvas.
楞严法会，从座同起，
顶礼佛足，而白佛言：
[In the] Śūraṅgama [Sūtra’s] Dharma assembly, from [their] seats together arising, [they] prostrated [at the] Buddha’s feet, and to [the] Buddha said,
往恒沙劫，有佛出世，
名无量光。十二如来，
‘Past Ganges [river’s] sands [of] kalpas [ago, there] was [a] Buddha [who] arose [in the] world, named “Immeasurable Light”. Twelve Thus Come Ones, [continually succeeded (for) one kalpa].
其最后佛，超日月光。
彼佛教我，念佛三昧。
Its last Buddha, [is named] “Surpassing Sun [And] Moon Light”. That Buddha taught me [the] Samādhi [From] Mindfulness [Of] Buddha.’
佛子相忆偈
[2] Verses [On Āmítuó]fó [And] Disciples Recollecting Each Other
阿弥陀佛，怜念众生，
如母忆子，子却逃逝。
Āmítuófó [is] sympathetically mindful [of] sentient beings, like [a] mother recollecting [her] child, yet [with the] child running away.
我若忆佛，如佛忆我，
佛我历生，不相违远。
I, if recollecting [Āmítuó]fó, like [Āmítuó]fó recollects me, [Āmítuó]fó [and] I, passing through life, [will] not [be] far apart [from] each other.
忆佛念佛，现前当来，
必定见佛，去佛不远。
Recollecting [Āmítuó]fó [or] mindful [of Āmítuó]fó[‘s name], manifesting [in the] present [or in the] future, [I] will definitely see [Āmítuó]fó, [with Āmítuó]fó not far [away].
不假方便，自得心开。
如染香人，香光庄严。
Not needing skilful means, [by] myself attaining awakening [of my] mind. Like [a] person perfumed [by] incense, [having] Adornment [With] Fragrance [And] Light.
第一圆通偈
[3] Verses [On] Foremost Perfect Penetration
势至菩萨，本因地行，
以念佛心，入无生忍。
[Great] Power Arrived Bodhisattva’s fundamental causal ground’s practice, [was] with [his] mind [being] mindful [of Āmítuó]fó, [for] entering Non-Arising Forbearance.
今于此界，摄念佛人，
归于净土，极乐世界。
Now in this world, gathering people mindful [of Āmítuó]fó, [for] ‘return’ to [his] Pure Land [Of] Ultimate Bliss.
唯一选择，念佛圆通，
仗佛他力，成得大势。
[His] only one choice, [was] Mindfulness [Of] Buddha’s Perfect Penetration, [with] reliance [on Āmítuó]fó’s Other-power, [to] accomplish Attainment [Of] Great Power.
都摄六根，净念相继，
得三摩地，斯为第一。
Gathering all six roots, [with] pure mindfulness [in] continuous succession, [to] attain Samādhi, this is [the] foremost.
摄根净念偈
[4] Verses [On] Gathering Roots [For] Pure Mindfulness
眼无所望，鼻无所闻，
舌无所尝，身无所触。
[The] eyes, without that gazed [at, the] nose without that smelling, [the] tongue without that tasting, [the] body without that touching.
意唯至心，信愿持名，
一心念出，阿弥陀佛。
[The] mind, only [with the] sincere mind, [thus with] Faith [and] Aspiration upholding [the] name, wholeheartedly reciting ‘out’ ‘Āmítuófó’.
耳唯至心，信愿闻名，
一心听入，阿弥陀佛。
[The] ears, only [with the] sincere mind, [thus with] Faith [and] Aspiration listening [to the] name, wholeheartedly hearing ‘in’ ‘Āmítuófó’.
以上即是，都摄六根。
以此念念，净念相继。
With [the] above, then is, gathering all six roots. With this, thought [after] thought, [is] pure mindfulness [in] continuous succession.
【至心念听，阿弥陀佛；都摄六根，净念相继。】
[(With the) sincere mind reciting (and) listening (to) ‘Āmítuófó’, (is) gathering all six roots, (with) pure mindfulness (in) continuous succession.]
