信因果，无怨尤
[231] [With] Faith [In] Cause [And] Effect, [Thus] Without Resentment
天下事，皆有因缘。其事之成与否，皆其因缘所使。
The world’s matters, all have [their] causes [and] conditions. These matters, of [their] accomplishment or not, [are] all [by] their causes [and] conditions those enabled.
虽有令成令坏之人，其实际之权力，乃在我之前因，而不在彼之现缘也。明乎此，则乐天知命，不怨不尤。
Although having those people [who] enable [them to be] accomplished [and] enable [them to be] destroyed, of their actual power, [it is] thus in our [own] past causes, and not in those manifesting conditions. [With] understanding in this, then joyful [with the ‘will’ of] heaven [and] knowing destiny [i.e. karma], not complaining [and] not resenting.
（若知前后因果，则穷通得丧，皆我自取，纵遇逆境，不怨不尤。只惭己德之未孚，不见人天之或失。见《正编·何阆仙家庆图序》）
(If knowing past [and] later causes [and] effects, thus [are] poverty [and] prestige, gain [and] loss, all [that] we personally obtain. Even if encountering adverse situations, not complaining [and] not resenting. Only [having] shame that [of] one’s [own] virtue, yet [to be] confident [in it], not seeing [other] human [and] heavenly [beings to] perhaps be [with] faults. 素位而行，无入而不自得矣。
[In] whatever positions then [diligently] doing [what should be done, with] no [place] entered then not carefree.
