[18] Record Of Requesting The Buddha To Wait, To Be Seen By Buddhist Friend, And For Biding Farewell

Táng [Dynasty’s] Yáopó
姚婆，上党人，与范婆善。
Yáopó [i.e. Old Lady Yáo], [was a] Shàngdǎng person, with Fànpó [i.e. Old Lady Fàn] familiar.
范婆劝令念阿弥陀佛，姚婆从之。
Fànpó [had] encouraged [and] enabled [her to be] mindful [of] Āmítuófó, [with] Yáopó following it.
遂屏息家缘，一心念佛。
Thereupon putting aside interest [in] family wealth, [she] wholeheartedly recited [the] Buddha[‘s name].
临终，见阿弥陀佛降临空中，二菩萨侍左右。
[When] approaching [life’s] end, [she] saw Āmítuófó descending, approaching [from the] sky, [with] two Bodhisattvas attending [on his] left [and] right.
姚婆白佛：「不遇范婆，安得见佛，请佛少住，与渠作别。」
Yáopó said [to the] Buddha, ‘[As I have] not met Fànpó [yet], how can [I alone] see [the] Buddha? May [the] Buddha abide [for a] little [while, so that I can] with her bid farewell.’
及范婆至，佛犹俨然，姚婆遂立化。（净土文）
When Fànpó arrived, [the] Buddha [was] still [there] majestically, [as] Yáopó thereupon stood [and] departed. (Pure Land Text)
