劝念佛
Exhortation [To Be] Mindful [Of] Buddha
人生四相难逃死,
天上何曾免五衰。
宁可九莲居下品,
不来浮世受胞胎。
[With this] human life’s four forms [of birth, ageing, sickness and death, it is] difficult [to] escape [from] death, [while in the] heavens above, never has [there been] avoiding [of the] five decays [of clothes becoming defiled (衣服垢秽), flowers on head withering (头上华萎), armpits below sweating (腋下出汗), bodies smelling foul (身体臭秽) and being without joy in one’s seat (不乐本座) before death. I] would rather [be in the] nine lotuses’ abode [with a] low grade, not coming [to this] floating [and sinking] world [to] receive [another] womb.
长生不用神仙诀,
救急还须海上方。
靠著主人无量寿,
算来都胜别思量。
[With] living long not needing [an] ‘immortal’s formula’, [or] urgent help still needing [an] ocean above’s ‘[godly] method’. Depending upon [the] Master [Of] Immeasurable Life [i.e. Āmítuófó], after calculation, [with this] surpassing all other considerations.
一句弥陀开化门,
岂拘城市与乡村?
直饶邪见人闻得,
也落音声入耳根。
[With the] one line [of] Āmítuófó’s [name as the] door [for] inspiring [and] transforming, how can it [be] restrained [to] cities and villages? Directly allow people [with] evil views [to] hear [and] attain [it], also [with its] sounds falling [after] entering [their] ears.
