勇猛偈
Verses On Courageous Power
菩提树下，
等觉菩萨，
即将成佛，
仍有魔考。
Under the Bodhi Tree, Equal Awakening Bodhisattvas, who are about to become Buddhas, still have Māra coming to test them.
凡夫初学，
业多福少，
修行道上，
岂无烦恼？
Of ordinary beings beginning to learn, with negative karma much and blessings little, on the path of cultivating practice, how can they be without afflictions?
安住佛号，
阿弥陀佛，
仗佛威力，
降伏烦恼。
Peacefully abiding on the Buddha’s name, ‘Āmítuófó’, rely on the Buddha’s mighty power, to subdue afflictions.
障越深重，
行更勇猛，
即使魔来，
唯魔自恼。
The deeper and heavier karmic obstacles are, the more courageous and powerful practice must be, such than even if Māra comes, it is only Māra himself who has afflictions.
