判教偈
Verses On Classification Of Teachings
通途法门,
即圣道门,
唯依自力,
即难行道。
[The] Common Dharma Doors, [1]
are [the] Noble Path’s Doors, [2]
[that] only rely [upon] Self-Power, [3]
then [as] Difficult Practice Paths. [4]
特别法门,
即净土门,
自加他力,
即易行道。
[The] Special Dharma Door, [1]
is [the] Pure Land Door, [2]
[that relies upon] Self-Power
added [to] Other-Power, [3]
then [as the] Easy Practice Path. [4]

The ‘Common Dharma Doors’ (通途法门)
and ‘Special Dharma Door’ (特别法门)
were as classified by
Great Master Yìnguāng (印光大师) [1862-1940]
to highlight Pure Land practice’s
ultimately special nature.
[2]
The ‘Noble Path Doors’ (圣道门)
and ‘Pure Land Door’ (净土门)
were as classified by
Great Master Dàochuò (道绰大师) [562-645]
to highlight Pure Land practice’s
ultimately pure nature.

ultimately easiest nature.
