Question: If I wish to set up shrine with an Amituofo image at home, must it face the West? Or will other directions do?
Answer: It is not a must that the image must face West, since
(1) He comes from the West, not to the West.
(2) He already pervades all space in terms of the immeasurable light of his compassion and blessings.
(3) He can manifest in and from any direction to receive and guide beings.
However, if placing the image’s back towards the West helps to give rise to a sense of spiritual direction, it is of course alright.
