The Most Wonderful Method Of Mindfulness Of Buddha 念佛最妙之法

(一)外道守秘密,恐人知其法,故不许人出声念佛。佛法中,无秘密之说。

(1) External paths guarding [their] secrets, fearing [that] others know their ‘Dharma’, thus [do] not allow people [to] verbally recite [their] ’Buddha[‘s name’. However], within [the] Buddha’s teachings, [they are] without that secretly spoken.

念佛随各人气力大小,而为大声小声。然出声念久伤气,故又须静坐默念。

Recitation [of the Buddha[‘s name] [i.e. Āmítuófó (阿弥陀佛)] [can] follow each person’s strength great [or] small, then as [that] loud [or] soft. However, [as] verbal recitation [for] long [will] harm breathing, thus must [there] also [be] quiet sitting [with] silent recitation.

无论大声小声默念,总要自己听自己之佛声。默念中亦仍有声,故亦须听。

Regardless [of being with] loud, soft [or] silent recitation, all must [be with] oneself listening [to] one’s sound [of the] Buddha[‘s name]. Within silent recitation, [as this] also still has sound [i.e. in the mind], thus must [it] also [be] listened [to].

能常听,心自归一。此念佛最妙之法也。

[If] able [to] constantly listen, [the] mind [will] naturally return [to be] one. This [method of] mindfulness [of] Buddha [is the] most wonderful of methods.

Please be mindful of your speech, Amituofo!
