佛陀舍利，神变无方
[289] [The] Buddha’s Śarīras’ Supernatural Transformations [Are] Without Limits
佛舍利，更为神变无方。
[The] Buddha’s śarīras [i.e. relics], [are with] even more supernatural transformations, without limits.
如隋文帝未作皇帝时，一梵僧赠舍利数粒，及登极后视之，则有许多粒（数百），因修五十多座宝塔。
Like when [the] Suí [Dynasty’s] Emperor Wén [was] yet [to] become emperor, an Indian monk bestowed [him] several pieces [of] śarīras. When ascending [the] throne after, looking [at] them, then having many pieces (several hundred) [more], because [of them], building more than fifty treasure pagodas.
[Note: In other words, the śarīras multiplied supernormally. This is proof that the Buddha is still present. While we might lack the meritorious virtues to see the Buddha in person at the moment, we might still have the ability to see his śarīras.
This multiplication also explains why there is seemingly always more than enough śarīras to be presented to those with the right affinity. However, while they might multiply with the virtuous, they might disappear from the unvirtuous too, or when conditions require so, perhaps for teleportation to safer places.]
阿育王寺之舍利塔，可捧而观，人各异见，或一人一时，有大小高下转变，及颜色转变，及不转变之不同，是不可以凡情测度者。
[The] Śarīra Pagoda of King Aśoka [i.e. Āyùwáng] Monastery, [has śarīra that] can [be] held up with two hands and looked [at, with] people each [having the] different seen. Perhaps [with] one person [at] one time, having differences of [it] transforming [to be] big [or] small, high [or] low, and transforming [in] colour, and [with it] not transforming. These cannot [be] with those ordinary feelings [and] desires measured.
世人以凡情测佛法，故只得其损，不受其益也。
[The] world’s people, with ordinary feelings [and] desires measuring [the] Buddha’s Dharma, thus only getting their losses, [do] not receive their benefits.
