为何释迦牟尼佛常劝念阿弥陀佛？
Why Did Śākyamuni Buddha Constantly Encourage Mindfulness Of Amitābha Buddha?
问：应当只念本师圣号，为感恩效法、怀念佛陀，而不念阿弥陀佛吗？
Question: Should there only be mindfulness of our Fundamental Teacher’s sacred name, out of gratitude, to ‘follow his example’ and remember him, while not being mindful of Amitābha Buddha (i.e. Āmítuófó)?
答：若依佛陀所说，以经中教诲，为佛法的根源，应当有以下的理解。
Answer: If relying on that the Buddha spoke, with the teachings within his sūtras, as the root sources of the Buddha’s teachings, there should be the below understanding.

感恩世尊，无问自说，阿弥陀经：「众生闻者，应当发愿，愿生彼国。」
With gratitude to the World-Honoured One, who without being asked, personally spoke the Amitābha Sūtra, saying that ‘those sentient beings who hear this, should vow, vowing to be born in that [Pure] Land’ [of Amitābha Buddha].

切记本师，观经中说：「若念佛者，当知此人，则是人中，分陀利华。」
It must be remembered that our Fundamental Teacher, in the Contemplation Sūtra, said that ‘if there are those mindful of [Amitābha] Buddha, you should know that these persons, are then within humans, puṇḍarīka flowers’, [who are the good (好), wonderfully good (妙好), rare (希有), highest superior (上上) and most excellent (最胜)].
