Verse On Six Births 六生偈 Verses For When Deceased 亡时偈 Verses On Warm Area 热处偈

[Verse On Six Births]

From the crown to be sages and from the eyes to be heavenly beings born, to be humans from the heart and hungry ghosts from the belly, to be animals from the kneecaps they depart, to be hell-beings from soles of the feet they exit.

[Must Not Explore]

If everyone, with utmost sincerity, practises support-chanting, the dying person can naturally and straightaway be reborn in the Western Pure Land. You must not time and again explore [for the last warm area]. As a result, the consciousness yet to depart, due to this, might become upset. With the mind giving rise to afflictions and pain, this causes rebirth in Pure Land not to be attained. Such transgressions and misgivings, in reality, are immeasurable and boundless.

Verses [For] When Deceased

Not crying, touching or moving [the body, offer] guidance [and] support-chanting [of the] Buddha’s [name, for] three to eight [or more] hours, then tug [the] hair above [the] crown.

If [the] crown [is] without head hair, then can [there be] tapping [of the] area, [with] strength not [too] great [or] little, after three times stopping.

Gently change [the] clothes [and] clean [the] body, when touching, [from the] head [to the] feet, first moving [the] body’s upper half, later moving [the] body’s lower half.

[With] reciting [of the] Buddha’s [name that] must not [be] stopped, [do] not chaotically examine [for] coldness [and] warmth, to avoid receiving [of] irritation, giving rise [to] anger, [to] not [be] born [in the] Western [Pure Land Of Ultimate Bliss].

Verses [On] Warm Area

[The deceased’s] body although having [a] warm area, [it is] not definite [that the] consciousness [has] already departed. [The] consciousness might [be] about [to] exit, or [is] towards [the] above [or] below [of the body] moving.

[The] warmth, [if from the] below reaching [the] above, [is] as [a] sign of rise [to a] higher [rebirth. The] warmth, [if from the] above reaching [the] below, [is] as [a] sign of fall [to a] lower [rebirth].

If causes [and] conditions [are] all present, continue [to offer] guidance [and] support-chanting. Until [there is] need [to] touch [and] move [the body], first tug [the] hair above [the] crown.

[The] consciousness if yet [to] depart, this tugging [is] for stimulation. With hope [that it] from [the] crown exits, [to] quickly [be] born [in the] Land [Of] Ultimate Bliss.
