念佛出生死
Be Mindful Of Buddha To Exit Rebirth
宁受地狱苦,
得闻诸佛名,
不受无量乐,
而不闻佛名。
Rather receiving hell’s suffering,
[to] attain hearing [of] all Buddhas’ name[s],
not receiving immeasurable joy,
[than] yet not hearing Buddhas’ name[s].
所以于往昔,
无数劫受苦,
流转生死中,
不闻佛名故。
Therefore, in [the] past,
[for] innumerable kalpas receiving suffering,
rebirth [in the cycle of] birth [and] death within,
[is with] not hearing Buddhas’ name[s] thus.

[Note 1: As Āmítuófó’s name in its most basic form as ‘Amitā Buddha(s)’ means ‘Immeasurable Buddha(s)’, his one name already encompasses all Buddhas’ names. (既然’阿弥陀佛’名即是’无量佛’之意,他的一名已经包含诸佛名。)
Note 2: Even if experiencing hellish suffering once, it is worth it, if able to hear at least Āmítuófó’s name as a result. However, this is just an analogy to emphasize the great precious worth of hearing his name, as hell is practically the place most difficult to encounter any Buddha’s name, as being there is due to much negative karma, being spiritually far from any Buddha, even in thought.
Note 3: However, there are rare cases of those who manage to have the conditions to hear and be mindful of Āmítuófó’s name in hell, thus being able to escape from hell, to be reborn in his Pure Land. Mindfulness of Āmítuófó’s name in time for the hellbound before death is also able to escape hell, to reach Pure Land instead. Having received Āmítuófó’s name, not only can hell be escaped from, worldly rebirth can be transcended entirely.
Note 4: If receiving immeasurable worldly joy instead, and not hearing Āmítuófó’s name, this is not worth it, as such joy is short-lived, while still being trapped in the rounds of rebirth.
Note 5: Hearing Āmítuófó’s name properly is to be mindful of his name with profound Faith (深信) and sincere Aspiration (切愿) for reaching his Pure Land, where there will be truly lasting immeasurable bliss.]
