Loving-kindness All Should Have
Like [a] mother not considering one’s own life to mindfully protect her only child, may all also [be] able [to], towards sentient beings, radiate this kind of immeasurable mind [with] loving-kindness.
Compassion Buddhas Already Have
I sympathise [with] you [and] all other heavenly [and] human people, more than fathers [and] mothers mindful [of their] children.
(Immeasurable Life Sūtra)
Note: While the Buddhas urge us to have immeasurable loving-kindness for all beings, as if they are our only children, they already have immeasurable compassion for all beings, more than all our parents. Perfectly mindful as they already are of us, we must be sincerely mindful of them, so as to connect more fully to their blessings.
