信
原文:云何为信?
一,信阿弥陀佛愿力。
二,信释迦文佛教话。
三,信六方诸佛赞叹。
此而不信,真不可救。
故须先深信,勿起疑惑。
白话:什么是信?
一,信阿弥陀佛能接引我们往生净土的大愿力。
二,信释迦牟尼佛所教,(关于阿弥陀佛的话语)。
三,信东南西北与下上六方,一切佛称赞的阿弥陀佛。
如果如此都不信,真是没得救。
所以须要先生起甚深的信心,不要生起疑惑。
Faith
What is Faith? First, Faith in the power of Amitā[bha] Buddha’s [Āmítuófó] vows. Second, Faith in Śākyamuni Buddha’s spoken teachings. Third, Faith in the praises of [Āmítuófó by] all Buddhas of the six directions [everywhere: East, South, West, North, Below and Above]. With these, yet not having Faith, one truly cannot be saved [by Āmítuófó]. Thus, one should first give rise to deep Faith, and not give rise to doubt.

原文:云何为愿?
一切时中,
厌恶娑婆生死之苦,
欣慕净土菩提之乐。
随有所作,若善若恶,
善则回向求生,
恶则忏愿求生。
更无二志,是名为愿。
白话:什么是愿?
时时厌恶(这里)娑婆世界,生死轮回的痛苦,
欣求与羡慕在净土能觉悟的安乐。
随着所作的,是善或恶,
善的就回向功德,求生净土,
恶的就忏悔业障,也发愿求生净土。
再也没有第二个志向,这就叫做愿。
Aspiration [Vow]
What is Aspiration [Vow]? At all times, loathe the suffering of birth and death in this Sahā World [with endurance of suffering], rejoice in and yearn for the bliss of enlightenment [Bodhi] in [Āmítuófó’s] Pure Land. Following all that is done, be it good or evil, for the good, thus dedicate it to seek birth in Pure Land, for the evil, thus repent it and vow to seek birth in Pure Land. Furthermore, without a second ambition [or intention], this is named Aspiration.

念佛方为正行,
改恶修善皆为助行。

白话:信心与发愿心具足时,
念佛便是真正的修行,
而改恶修善都是辅助的修行。
Practice
With Faith and Aspiration [Vow] already complete, [wholehearted (utmost sincere) mindful] recitation of the name of Buddha [Āmítuófó] is then as the ‘Main Practice’, while correction of evil and cultivation of good are all as ‘Supportive Practices’.

原文:得生与否,
全由信愿之有无。
品位高下,
全由持名之深浅。

白话:是否得生净土,
全由信心与发愿心的有或没有。
得生品位的高下,
全由持名念佛功夫的深或浅。
Faith, Aspiration [Vow] & Practice (1)
Attaining birth [in Āmítuófó’s Pure Land] or not, is all due to Faith and Aspiration [Vow] being present or absent. The grade [of birth] being high or low, is all due to [the Practice of] upholding [reciting] the name [of Āmítuófó] being deep or shallow.

信愿行 (2)
原文:念佛法门,注重信愿。有信愿,未得一心,亦可往生。得一心,若无信愿,亦不得往生。
白话:修持念佛法门,注重生起信心,和发愿求生净土的心。有信心与发愿心,还没修得一心,也可以往生净土。修得一心,如果没有信心与发愿心,也不得往生净土。
Faith, Aspiration [Vow] & Practice (2)
The Dharma Door Of Mindfulness Of Buddha [i.e. reciting of Āmítuófó’s name (阿弥陀佛)] emphasises on Faith and Aspiration [i.e. Vow]. Having Faith and Aspiration, yet to attain single-mindedness [i.e. concentration in Practice (行)], one also can attain rebirth in Pure Land. Having attained single-mindedness, if without Faith and Aspiration, one also cannot attain rebirth in Pure Land.
原文:世人多多注重一心,不注重信愿,已是失其扼要。而复又生一既未得一心,恐不得往生之疑,则全与真信切愿相反矣。此种想念,似乎是好想念。
白话:世人大多数注重修得一心,不注重培养信心与发愿心,就已经失去了念佛法门的要点。而且,又生起一个既然还没修得一心,怕不得往生净土的疑惑,便完全与有真正的信心,和至诚恳切发愿求生净土的心成相反。这种想法,像是好的想法,但并非如此。
Extremely many common people who emphasise on single-mindedness, and do not emphasise on Faith and Aspiration, are already missing these essentials. Yet, again and again giving rise to the one doubt with fear of not attaining rebirth in Pure Land since yet to attain single-mindedness, this is then completely opposite of true Faith and sincere Aspiration. This kind of thinking, seems to be good thinking [but it is not].
原文:实则,由此而益加信愿,以致一心,则是好想念。若由因不得一心,常存一不能往生之心,则成坏想念矣。不可不知!

净土宗十三祖印光大师
白话:其实,因为如此加强信心与发愿心,以致修得一心更有益。这才是好的想法。如果由于还没得到一心,又常常存着一个不能往生的疑心,就成为坏的想法。这个道理不可不知!
In fact, from this, it is then beneficial to increase Faith and Aspiration, so that there is single-mindedness [as wholehearted (i.e. utmost sincere) Practice with Faith and Aspiration naturally leads to single-mindedness]. This then is good thinking. If due to not attaining single-mindedness, constantly retaining the one thought of not being able to be reborn in Pure Land, this then becomes bad thinking. This cannot be not known!
