The One-Character True Word
「纥利」字，亦云惭义，若具惭愧不为一切不善，即具一切无漏善法。
[The] ‘Hrīḥ’ word, [is] also to say shame’s meaning. If possessing shame, not doing all [that is] not good [i.e. non-virtuous], thus possessing all good Dharma [teachings] without outflows.
[Note: ‘Hrīḥ’ (纥利) (in Siddham script for Sanskrit in picture above) is a Sanskrit (梵文) seed syllable (bīja: 种子字), an essential primordial root or foundational monosyllabic sound, as a seed of creation, from which spiritual principles arise and develop fully.
‘Hrīḥ’ is associated with the heart and mind of Amitābha Buddha (阿弥陀佛: Āmítuófó), highlighting qualities like shame, remorse, modesty, conscientiousness and self-respect, forming the mental state that avoids non-virtues.
‘Hrīḥ’ is thus Āmítuófó’s seed syllable, representing his perfect virtues like compassion (慈悲) and wisdom (智慧), appearing in his heart mantra (心咒) ‘Oṃ Ami Dewa Hrīḥ’ (in picture above), for purifying evil karmas and negative emotions connected to the six paths (六道), removing obstacles, offering protection and reaching his Pure Land (净土).
The mantra also represents the Six Perfections (六度) of Generosity (布施), Upholding Precepts (持戒), Patience (忍辱), Diligence (精进), Meditative Concentration (禅定) and Wisdom (智慧).
‘Om’ represents Āmítuófó’s fully enlightened body, speech and mind. ‘Ami’ represents his immeasurability (of light, life and other pure qualities). ‘Dewa’ represents (his Pure Land that transcends) the devas’ Desire (欲界) and Brahma realms (色无色界).]
是故莲华部亦名法部。由此字加持，于极乐世界，水鸟树林皆演法音，如广经中所说。
Therefore, [the] Lotus Flower Division [is] also named [the] Dharma Division. Due [to] this character’s empowerment, [the] Land [Of] Ultimate Bliss’ waters, birds, groves all expound [the] Dharma’s sounds, like those within Vast [Great Vehicle’s: 大乘] Sūtras spoken.
若人持此一字真言，能除一切灾祸疾病，命终已后当生安乐国土得上品上生。
If people uphold this one-character’s true word [i.e. mantra: 咒], [they are] able [to] eliminate all disasters [and] sicknesses, [and at] life’s end after, [they] will [be] born [in the] Land [Of] Peace [And] Bliss [to] attain [the] High Grade’s High Birth.
