[25] [Do] Not Follow Flattery [And] Honour, [And] Not Attend [To] Admonishments [And] Exhortations
In my humble opinion, nowadays, [the] ways [of the] world [are] not pure [and] honest, [with] teachers [and] friends’ paths lost. Many follow flattery [and] honour, [and do] not attend [to] admonishments [and] exhortations.
Causing [those] higher [with] wisdom [to] delay [their] dates of entering [the] noble, [and those] lower [with] foolishness [to] lose [the] benefits of daily progress.
[Yìn]guāng [印光] [was] formerly [a] Northern Shǎnxī man, [with] qualities equal [to] sand [and] stones. Very often, [when] before good jade, [have] manners that indulge [in the] unrestrained [and] abrasive. [This] must [be the] desire [to] lead that [to] quickly accomplish [as a] complete vessel, as [a] treasure throughout the world. Even if powdering [my] body [and] crushing [its] bones, also having no time to attend [to this].
[As our] seats below [have] beautiful jade without blemishes, [and] pure gold cut off [from] ore, [of] what use [are] admonishments [and] exhortations, [and] how [can there be] sinking [into] flattery [and] honour?
[The] donkey skills of [Yìn]guāng, [are] completely without that [to] give. However, desiring [to] inherit past [predecessors’ undertakings to] open up [a path for the] future, showed myself [to] speak [the] Dharma, bowing down [to] respond [to] all living beings. [For] leading people [to] enter [the] supreme, seemingly perhaps, having very small benefits.
