[301] Virtuous Mothers And Virtuous Wives Are Able To Accomplish Virtuous Persons

Humans born [in this] world, [with] good [and] evil, must each [be] assisted, [to] then [be] able [to] have accomplishments. Although [there are] those sages from [the] heavens sent, [they] still must [have] virtuous mothers [and] virtuous wives, with [them] assisting their path’s virtues, moreover those below?

Therefore, [with] Tài Rèn [i.e  King Wén’s virtuous mother] having prenatal education, leading King Wén [when] born [to] have noble virtues.

Thus, [the Book of] Odes praises him, ‘[With] propriety [i.e. etiquette] to [his] virtuous wife, reaching to [his] brothers, with [this for] governing of [his] family [and] nation.’

However, this [is] only restricted [to] King Wén’s side speaking. If discussing [on the] virtues of Tài Sì [i.e. King Wén’s virtuous wife], [they] certainly also can assist [the] path of King Wén.

Like two lamps illuminating each other, [with] even more seen [with their] lights brighter. [Like] two hands washing each other, then obtaining cleanliness.

Due [to] this, saying that [the] world [having] less virtuous persons, [is] due to [the] world [having] less virtuous mothers and virtuous wives. [This is] really because wives [are] able [to] secretly aid [their] husbands, [and] mothers [are] able [to] prenatally educate [their] sons [and] daughters.

Moreover, newborns [have] several years, daily at [their] mothers’ sides. Personally taught [by their] virtuous models, constantly receiving teachings [and] instructions, their natures [and] dispositions [are] unknowingly [and] unconsciously by them transformed, having those not expected thus yet [being] thus.

I often say, ‘Teaching women is [the] root of managing [the] family [and] governing [the] country.’ Also often saying, ‘[On the] power of governing [the] country [and] pacifying [the] heavens below, women get [to] manage [more than] one great half.’ These cover what [meant].
