[279] Those Slandering The Buddha, Are Thus Self-Slandering Only 彼谤佛者,乃自谤耳

[The] sympathetic mindfulness of [the] Buddha [for] sentient beings, began from beginninglessness, [and] ends [at the] utmost [of the] future. [From the] above, from Equal Awakening Bodhisattvas, [to the] below, reaching [the] six paths’ ordinary beings, [it is] without one person not in [his] great compassionate vows, that encompass all within.

For example, like empty space, universally containing all, [the] numerous spread out ten thousand forms, and even [the] heavens [and] earth, all those [are] included.

Also like sunlight, universally illuminating [in the] ten thousand directions, even if [there are persons] born blind, [in their] entire lives not seeing [the] light’s forms, however, [they] also receive its illumination, [to then] be able to [be] persons. If without sunlight illuminating, then [are they] without [that] condition of life. How can it be that [there] must [be] personally seeing [of] light’s forms, then because of [this] receiving [its] favours?

Those [with] worldly knowledge [and] intelligence [in] debating, with strict adhering [to] one’s wasteland’s views, refuting [and] denouncing [the] Buddha’s teachings, say they harm [the] noble path, confuse [the] world [and] mislead people. With [those] born blind scolding [the] sun, saying that [it is] without bright light, there is completely no difference [from this].

All external paths, all steal [from] meanings of [the] Buddhist sūtras, with [them] as their own. [There] also are [those] stealing names of [the] Buddha’s teachings, with [them] practising evil teachings.

[It] is known [that the] Buddha’s Dharma, [is] thus [the] path’s root of worldly [and] world-transcending [teachings]. Similar to [the] great ocean, secretly moving within lands, [with] its moisture revealed unintentionally, then as ten thousand rivers. Yet [with these] ten thousand rivers, without one not returning [to the] great ocean.

Those slandering [the] Buddha, [are] ‘not’ slandering [the] Buddha, thus self-slandering only. With those [persons’] one thought’s mind-nature’s entire essence being [the] Buddha, [the] Buddha, then thus, [with] all kinds [of] teachings, spoke [to] teach [and] transform [them], only hoping [that] those renounce [their] confusions [and] return [to] awakening, [to] personally realise one’s originally possessed Buddha-nature.

With Buddha-nature as [the] most honourable [and] most cherishable, thus [was the] Buddha unsparing thus, [with] that diligence [to teach about it]. Even if [there are those] not [with] faith receiving [this], also not bearing [to] abandon [them].

If sentient beings [do] not possess Buddha-nature, [and are] not able [to] become Buddhas, [with the] Buddha’s disciples because of thus set up, then [the] Buddha, is then [the] world’s foremost ignorant person, [and] also is [the] world’s foremost person [with] great false speech. [How can] those heavenly [beings and] dragons’ eight divisions, [with the] Three Vehicles’ virtuous [and] noble [ones], still [be] willing [to] protect [and] guard [him, and] rely on [him]?
