古德著述之初步向导
[329] [The] Initial Guide Of Ancient Virtuous [Ones’] Compilation Of Writings
欲知禅净之所以然，非博览禅净诸书不可。即能博览，倘无择法智眼，亦成望洋兴叹，渺不知其归者。
Desiring [to] know [the] reasoning [and] principles [of the] Chán [and] Pure [Land Traditions, if] not extensively reading all books [of the] Chán [and] Pure [Land Traditions, this] cannot [be done]. Even if able [to] extensively read, if without selecting [of the] Dharma [Door with] wisdom’s eye, [this] also becomes gazing [at the] ocean, giving rise [to] sighing, [with it being] boundless, not knowing that [for] return.
是宜专阅净土著述。然净土著述甚多，未入门人，犹难得其纲要。
[It] is suitable [to] focus [on] reading [the] Pure Land [Tradition’s] compilation of writings. However, [as the] Pure Land [Tradition’s] compilation of writings [is with] extremely many [works, for] people yet [to] enter [the] door [i.e. beginners], [it is] still difficult [to] attain its essential points.
求其引人入胜，将禅净界限，佛力自力，分析明白，了无疑滞，语言显浅，意义平实，为研古德著述之初步向导者，其印光《文钞》乎。祈息心研究，当自知之。
Seeking that [for] guiding people [to] enter [the] supreme, with [the] Chán [and] Pure [Land Traditions’] boundaries, [the] Buddha’s power [and] Self-power, analysed clearly, completely without doubts [and] hesitation, [with] language obvious [and] simple, meanings unassuming, sincere [and] honest, as [the] initial guide of those studying ancient virtuous [ones’] compilation of writings, it [is with] Yìnguāng’s ‘Collected Writings’. [I] implore [you to] extinguish [distracting] thoughts [for] studying [them, so that you] will personally know them.

编者敬按：今为便利阅读《文钞》计，撷其至精至要之言，编此《菁华录》一书。
Compiler’s respectful note: Now, for convenient reading [of ‘Dharma Master Yìnguāng’s (Three Compilations Of)] Collected Writings’《印光法师文钞》planning, [I have] selected their utmost essential [and] utmost brief words, [to] compile [as] this ‘Record [Of Great Master Yìnguāng’s Collected Writings’] Essence’ 《印光大师文钞菁华录》, [this] one book.
有志净业者，如无暇详阅《文钞》，但将此《菁华录》息心研究，而净土文义，洞若观火矣。
[Of] those [who] have [the] aspiration [to cultivate] pure karmas, if [they] have no time [to] detailedly read [the] ‘Collected Writings’, only with this ‘Record [Of] Essence’, extinguishing [distracting] thoughts [for] studying [it], then [will the] Pure Land texts’ meanings, [be] clear like looking [at] fire.
