念佛法门一大纲宗等良导
[327] [The] Dharma Door [Of] Mindfulness [Of] Buddha’s One Great Guiding Principle [And] Other Good Guides
梦东云：「真为生死，发菩提心，以深信愿，持佛名号。」此十六字，为念佛法门一大纲宗。此一段开示，精切之极，当熟读之。
Mèngdōng [i.e. the Pure Land Tradition’s Twelfth Patriarch Great Master Chèwù (净土宗十二祖彻悟大师)] said, ‘Truly for [liberation from the cycle of] birth [and] death, give rise [to the] Bodhi Mind, [and] with profound Faith [and] Aspiration, uphold [the] Buddha’s name [i.e. Āmítuófó (阿弥陀佛)].’ These sixteen words, are [the] Dharma Door [Of] Mindfulness [Of] Buddha’s one great guiding principle. [As] this one passage’s teachings, [are] precise, appropriate [and] fitting, [to] that utmost, [there] should [be] rereading [to be] familiar [with] it.
而《梦东语录》，通皆词理周到，的为净宗指南。
And [as the] ‘Record [Of] Mèngdōng’s Words’, [is with] all [its] words [and] principles thoughtful, [it] is indeed [the] Pure [Land] Tradition’s guide.
再进而求之，则蕅益老人《弥陀要解》，实为千古绝无而仅有之良导。
Going further, then seeking that, then [is] Old [Master] Ǒuyì’s [i.e. the Pure Land Tradition’s Ninth Patriarch Great Master Ǒuyì (净土宗九祖蕅益大师)] ‘Essential Explanation [Of The] Sūtra [In Which The] Buddha Speaks [Of] Amitā[bha Buddha]’ 《佛说阿弥陀经要解》. [It] truly is that good guide, [which a] thousand ages [is] absolutely without, then [being the] only [one].

倘能于此二书，死心依从。则即无暇研究一切经论，但常阅《净土三经》及《十要》等。
If able [to] rely on these two books, [with the] wholehearted mind complying with [them], then even if [you] have no time [to] study all sūtras [and] commentaries, [you should] only constantly read ‘[The] Pure Land [Tradition’s] Three Sūtras’, [the] ‘Ten Essentials’ [and] others.

仰信佛祖诚言，的生真信，发切愿，以至诚恭敬，持佛名号。
Rely faithfully on [the] Buddha [and] Patriarchs’ true [and] sincere words, [to] really give rise [to] true Faith, [and] give rise [to] sincere Aspiration, with utmost sincerity [and] reverence, [to] uphold [the] Buddha’s name.
虽在暗室屋漏，如对佛天。克己复礼，慎独存诚。
Although in [a] dark house’s room’s unseen place, [be] like facing [the] Buddhas [and] heavenly [beings]. Restrain yourself [and] return [to] propriety. [Be] cautious [when] alone [and] retain sincerity.
不效近世通人，了无拘束，肆无忌惮之派。
[Do] not emulate [these] modern times’ faction of people [with] ‘wide knowledge’, [who are] completely without restraint, unbridled without scruples [and] fear.
光虽生死凡夫，敢为阁下保任，即生便可俯谢娑婆，高预海会，亲为弥陀弟子，大士良朋矣。
[Yìn]guāng, although [is an] ordinary being [in the cycle of] birth [and] death, dare [to], for your excellency guarantee, [that in this] immediate life, [you] can then, [when] downward withering [in this] Sahā [World, have] high entry [into the] ocean[-wide] assembly, [to] personally be Āmítuófó’s disciple, [and] Great Bodhisattvas’ good friend.
