[47] Ten Sūtra Proofs Of Rebirth In Āmítuófó’s Pure Land Being For Ordinary Beings Too 十个凡夫亦能往生阿弥陀佛净土之经证

问曰:上来返对之义,云何得知世尊定为凡夫,不为圣人者?未审直以人情准义,为当亦有圣教来证?

Question: [On the] meanings of [the] above replies [to] correct, how can [it be] known [that the] World-Honoured [One was] definitely [speaking] those for ordinary beings, not for noble persons? Yet [to] understand [if these are] directly with human emotions [as] criteria [for the] meanings, [or] are [with those] matching, also having [the] noble teachings for proof?

答曰:众生垢重,智慧浅近,圣意弘深,岂宁自辄?今者一一悉取佛说以为明证,就此证中,即有其十句。何者?

Answer: [As] sentient beings [are with] defilements heavy, wisdom shallow [and] superficial, [while] noble [beings’] intentions [are] great [and] deep, how can [these be with those] personal then? Now [with] each [and every] one, all obtaining [that the] Buddha spoke, with [them] for proving, thereupon [with] these proofs within, then are these ten lines. What [are] these?

第一,如《观经》云,佛告韦提:「我今为汝广说众譬,亦令未来世一切凡夫,欲修净业者得生西方极乐国土」者,是其一证也。

[1] First, like [the] Contemplation Sūtra says, [the] Buddha told Vaidehī, ‘I [will] now for you, extensively speak [with] all analogies, [to] likewise enable future lives’ all ordinary beings, those desiring [to] cultivate pure karmas, [to] attain birth [in the] Western Land [Of] Ultimate Bliss’, this is [the] first proof.

二言「如来今者,为未来世一切众生,为烦恼贼之所害者,说清净业」者,是其二证也。

[2] Second, saying that, ‘[The] Thus Come [One] now, for future lives’ all sentient beings, for those by afflictions’ thieves harmed, [will] speak [of] pure karmas’, this is [the] second proof.

三言「如来今者,教韦提希,及未来世一切众生,观于西方极乐世界」者,是其三证也。

[3] Third, saying that, ‘[The] Thus Come [One] now, [will] teach Vaidehī and future lives’ all sentient beings, [to] contemplate on [the] Western Land [Of] Ultimate Bliss’, this is [the] third proof.

四言「韦提白佛:『我今以佛力故,见彼国土。若佛灭后,诸众生等,浊恶不善,五苦所逼,云何当见[阿弥陀佛]极乐世界』」者,是其四证也。

[4] Fourth, saying that, ‘Vaidehī [to the] Buddha said, “Those like me now, with [the] Buddha’s power thus, see that land. If after [the] Buddha’s Parinirvāṇa, [of] all sentient beings’ kinds, [the] defiled [and] evil, unvirtuous, [and] those [by the] Five Sufferings bothered, how should [they] see [Amitā(bha) Buddha’s] Land [Of] Ultimate Bliss?”‘, this is [the] fourth proof.

五如日观初云「佛告韦提:『汝及众生[应当]专[心系]念』」已下,乃至「一切众生,自非生盲,有目之徒,[皆]见日」已来者,是其五证也。

[5] Fifth, like [the] Sun Contemplation first says that, ‘[The] Buddha told Vaidehī, “You and [other] sentient beings, [should] focus [your minds with continual] mindfulness“’ afterwards below, and even, ‘All sentient beings, naturally not born blind, disciples [who] have sight, [should all] see [the] sun’ afterwards, this is [the] fifth proof.

六如地观中说言「佛告阿难:『汝持佛语,为未来世一切大众,欲脱苦者,说是观地法』」者,是其六证也。

[6] Sixth, like [the] Ground Contemplation within says that, ‘[The] Buddha told Ānanda, “You [should] uphold [the] Buddha’s words, for future lives’ all great assemblies, those [who] desire [to be] liberated [from] suffering, speak this contemplation [of] ground’s method”‘, this is [the] sixth proof.

七如华座观中说言「韦提白佛:『我[今]因佛力,得见无量寿佛及二菩萨。未来众生当云何观』」者,是其七证也。

[7] Seventh, like [the] Flower Seat Contemplation within says that, ‘Vaidehī [to the Buddha] said, “I [now], because [of the] Buddha’s power thus, attain sight [of] Immeasurable Life Buddha and [the] two Bodhisattvas. [For] future sentient beings, how should [they] contemplate”‘, this is [the] seventh proof.

八次下答请中说言「佛告韦提:『欲观彼佛者,当起想念』」者,是其八证也。

[8] Eighth, next below, [the] reply [to the] request within says that, ‘[The] Buddha told Vaidehī, “Those desiring [to] contemplate that Buddha, should give rise [to this] contemplated thought”‘, this is [the] eighth proof.

九如像观中说言「佛告韦提:『诸佛如来,[是法界身],入一切众生心想中。是故汝等心想佛时』」者,是其九证也。

[9] Ninth, like [the] Image Contemplation within says that, ‘[The] Buddha told Vaidehī, “All Buddha Thus Come [Ones], [are the Dharma Realm’s Body, who] enter all sentient beings’ minds’ contemplations within. Therefore, when you all [have] minds contemplating [the] Buddha”‘, this is [the] ninth proof.

十如九品之中一一说「为众生」者, 是其十证也。

[10] Tenth, like those Nine Grades within, each [and every] one says that, ‘for sentient beings‘, this is [the] tenth proof.

上来虽有十句不同,证明如来说此十六观法,但为常没众生,不干大小圣也。以斯文证,岂是谬哉!

[The] above, although having ten lines [that are] not [the] same, prove [that the] Thus Come [One] spoke these sixteen contemplation methods, only for constantly sinking sentient beings, not concerning great [and] minor noble [beings]. With this textual confirmation, how can [there be] this error?
