净土宗比禅宗,相宗与密宗更稳当
[151] [The] Pure Land Tradition [Is] More Reliable [Than The] Chán, Form And Esoteric Traditions
近来人每每好高务胜,稍聪明,便学禅宗、相宗、密宗,多多将念佛看得无用。
Recently, people [are] often fond [of going] ‘higher’ [and] pursuing [the] ‘superior’, [with those] slightly ‘cleverer’, then learning [the] Chán Tradition, [Dharma] Form Tradition [法相宗] [and] Esoteric Tradition. Extremely many [are] with mindfulness [of] Buddha seen [to] be useless.
彼只知禅家机语之玄妙,相宗法相之精微,密宗威神之广大。
Those only know [the] profound wonders of [the] Chán school’s opportune words, [the] subtleties of [the] Form Tradition’s dharma forms, [the] vastness [and] greatness of [the] Esoteric Tradition’s majestic supernormal [powers].
而不知禅纵到大彻大悟地位,若烦惑未净,则依旧生死不了。
Yet, [they do] not know [that with the] Chán [Tradition], even if reaching great penetration [and] great awakening’s position, if [with] afflictions [and] confusions yet [to be] purified, [they are] then as before, [in the cycle of] birth [and] death not liberated.
相宗不破尽我法二执,则纵明白种种名相,如说食数宝,究有何益?
[With the] Form Tradition, not completely destroying self [and] dharmas’ two attachments, then even if understanding all kinds [of] names [and] forms, like speaking [about] food [and] counting treasures, [this] in the end, has what benefits?
密宗虽云现身可以成佛,然能成者,决非博地凡夫之事。凡夫妄生此想,则着魔发狂者,十有八九也。
[With the] Esoteric Tradition, although saying [this] present life can accomplish Buddhahood, however, those able [to] accomplish [it, are] definitely not [with the] practices of thin ground’s ordinary beings. [Of] those ordinary beings [who] falsely give rise [to] this thought, then possessed [by] demons [to] go mad, [in] ten are eight [or] nine.
是以必须专志于念佛一门,为千稳万当之无上第一法则也。
Therefore, [there] must [be] focused Aspiration with mindfulness [of] Buddha, [this] one [Dharma] Door, as [the] unsurpassable foremost method, that is [a] thousand [times more] secure [and] ten thousand [times more] appropriate.
