净土法门如何超胜一切法门
[244] How [The] Pure Land Dharma Door Surpasses [In] Excellence [When Compared With] All [Other] Dharma Doors
若用禅家参「念佛的是谁？」，则是参禅求悟，殊失净土宗旨。此极大极要之关系。
If using [the] Chán School’s contemplation [of] ‘Who is mindful [of the] Buddha?’, [this] then is [with] contemplation [of] Chán seeking awakening, different [from and] losing [the] Pure Land Tradition’s purpose. This [is with the] utmost great [and] utmost essential of importance.
人每欲冒「禅净双修」之名，而力主参究。则所得之利益有限（念到极处，也会开悟），所失之利益无穷矣。
People often desire [to] pose [with the] name of [having] ‘Chán [And] Pure [Land Traditions’] double cultivation’, yet strongly advocate contemplative investigation. Then [are] those attained benefits limited ([with] mindfulness arriving [at the] utmost point, [there] also can [be] awakening), [and] those lost benefits boundless.
以不注重信愿求生，不能与佛感应道交。纵令亲见「念佛的是谁」，亦难蒙佛接引往生西方，以无信愿求生之心故也。
With not emphasising [on having] Faith [and] Aspiration [to] seek birth [in Pure Land, they are] not able [to], with [the] Buddha, [have] connection [and] response [for] mutual interaction. Even if personally seeing ‘who is mindful [of the] Buddha’, [they are] also difficult [to] receive [the] Buddha’s reception [and] guidance [for] rebirth [in his] Western [Pure Land Of Ultimate Bliss] [西方极乐世界], with [being] without [the] mind of Faith [and] Aspiration seeking birth thus.
又未断烦惑，不能仗自力了生脱死。好说大话者，均由不知此义。
Also, [if] yet [to] sever afflictions [and] confusions, [they are] not able [to] rely [on] Self-power [to be] liberated [from the cycle of] birth [and] death. Those fond [of] speaking great [boastful] words, are] all due [to] not knowing this meaning.
净土法门，超胜一切法门者，在仗佛力。其余诸法门，皆仗自力。
That [which the] Pure Land Dharma Door, surpasses [in] excellence [when compared with] all [other] Dharma Doors, [is] in [its] reliance [on the] Buddha’s power. Those all other Dharma Doors, all rely [on] Self-power [only].
自力何可与佛力并论乎？此修净土法门之最要一关也。
[On] Self-power, how can [this be] with [the] Buddha’s power discussed together? This [is the] most essential one pass of cultivating [the] Pure Land Dharma Door.
