[23] With The Special Dharma Door, In This Present Life Attain Benefits

Dharma Master [Sēng]zhào [僧肇] said, ‘Within [the] heavens [and] earth, between time [and] space, within is a treasure, secretly in form’s mountain.’ These words, [are] only restricted [to] those yet [to] awaken [and] yet [to] realise spoken.

[Note 1: Form’s mountain (形山) refers to our body, which ‘hides’ the mind-nature (心性).]

Actually, this treasure includes [the] great void, vertically completely [and] horizontally everywhere, from ancient [times] extending across [to] now, often appearing. [This is] precisely so-called, ‘[From] moment [to] moment revealed then [to] people, then [with] people personally not recognising [it].’ How [is this] not pitiful?

Only our Śākya[muni Buddha, the] World-Honoured [One, this] one person, personally attained [its] benefits. All other sentient beings, passing kalpa to kalpa, ‘relying’ [on] this treasure’s mighty super[normal] powers, give rise [to] confusions [and] create [evil] karmas, [with] rebirth [in the] six paths, completely without [an] exit date.

Similar to blind persons, personally ascending [a] treasure mountain, not only not attaining benefits, instead then receiving those injuries. Due [to] this, [the] World-Honoured [One], accordingly complying [with their] capacities suitably, for them taught, so that each one [can] approach [the] path [to] return home. At those six roots, six dusts, six consciousnesses [and] seven great [elements] within, according to whatever realm, attentively examine, with hope [of] personally seeing this treasure.

[Note 2: Six Roots (六根):

(i) Eye Root (眼根)
(ii) Ear Root (耳根)
(iii) Nose Root (鼻根)
(iv) Tongue Root (舌根)
(v) Body Root (身根)
(vi) Mind Root (意根)]

[Note 3: Six Dusts (六尘):

(i)
Form Dust (色尘)
(ii)
Sound Dust (声尘)
(iii)
Smell Dust (香尘)
(iv)
Taste Dust (味尘)
(v)
Touch Dust (触尘)
(vi) Thought Dust (法尘)]

[Note 4: Six Consciousnesses (六识):

(i) Eye Consciousness (Sight) (眼识)
(ii) Ear Consciousness (Sound) (耳识)
(iii) Nose Consciousness (Smell) (鼻识)
(iv) Tongue Consciousness (Taste) (舌识)
(v) Body Consciousness (Touch) (身识)
(vi) Mind Consciousness (Thought) (意识)]

[Note 5: Seven Great Elements (七大):

(i)
Earth Great Element (地大) of solidity
(ii) Water Great Element (水大) of fluidity
(iii) Fire Great Element (火大) of (heat) energy
(iv) Wind Great Element (风大) of movement
(v) Space Great Element (空大) of nothingness
(vi) Perception Great Element (见大) of seeing
(vii) Consciousness Great Element (识大) of awareness

(i) to (iv) are the Four Great Elements (四大).]

However, those [who] possess [the] wisdom illumination of Prajñā, directly entering [the] aggregates’ emptiness [and] difficulties’ exhaustion, although then having many [of] these persons, yet [it is] not [what this Dharma-]Ending Age’s dull-rooted sentient beings’ that able to hope [for].

Thereupon opening one Special Dharma Door, with hope [that those of the] high, middle [and] low roots, [can] together in [this] present life, attain its true benefits. Leading [us to be] with profound Faith [and] sincere Aspiration, [to] focus [on] mindfulness [of] Āmítuófó’s sacred name, [to] gather all six roots, [with] pure mindfulness [in] continuous succession.

Gradually over time, then [will] sentient beings’ karmic consciousness’ minds, accomplish [the] Thus Come [Ones’] secret treasury. Then due [to this] samādhi treasure, realising true form’s treasure, then knowing this treasure, fully fills [the] Dharma Realm. Again with this treasure, universally giving [to] all.

Therefore, since [the] Buddha opened this Dharma Door, all Bodhisattvas, Patriarchs [and] good-knowing friends, all follow this Dharma. With that complete [with] Self [and] Other, [these] two powers, compared [with] those focusing [on] relying [on] Self-power, their difficulty [and] easiness [are] not only [with] those differences [between the] sky [and the] abyss.
