宋潭州黄打铁
[26] Sòng [Dynasty’s] Tánzhōu’s Huáng [Who] Forges Ironware
黄打铁，本军中人，打铁为生。
Huáng [Who] Forges Ironware, [was] originally [a] military person, [with] forging [of] ironware as livelihood.
每打铁时，念阿弥陀佛不绝声。
Every time [he] hit [the] metal, [he would] recite Āmítuófó[‘s name, with] unending recitation.
一日无疾，托邻人写颂印行，广劝人念佛。
One day, without sickness, [he] entrusted [a] neighbour [to] write [a] verse, [to] print [and] distribute [it, to] widely encourage recitation [of the] Buddha[‘s name].
颂云：「
日夜玎玎珰珰，
久炼成钢；
太平将近，
我往西方。」
[The] verse said,
‘[In] day [and] night, dīng dīng dāng dāng [i.e. the sound of metal hit], [with] long tempering accomplishes hard steel. Great peace [is] near, [as] I [am going to be] reborn [in the] West[ern Pure Land].’
即化去。此颂广行湖南，人多念佛。
Then departing [to] go. [With] this widely distributed [in] Húnán, many people recited [the] Buddha[‘s name].
