宝粮偈
Verses [On Triple] Gem [And Three] Provisions
佛子皈依后，
不定修念佛，
虽已归三宝，
未积三资粮。
[The] Buddhas’ disciples, after taking refuge, [might] not definitely cultivate mindfulness [of the] Buddha. Although already [with] refuge [in the] Triple Gem [of Buddhas, Dharma and Saṃgha], yet [to] accumulate [the] Three Provisions [of Faith, Aspiration and Practice].
信愿念佛时，
即皈依三宝。
具足三资粮，
即三宝弟子。
When [with] Faith [and] Aspiration mindful [of the] Buddha[‘s name: Āmítuófó], immediately [is to] take refuge [in the] Triple Gem. [Those] complete [with the] Three Provisions, immediate [are the] Triple Gem’s disciples.
弥陀通诸佛，
念佛攝诸法，
圣众代诸僧，
一念皆皈依。
[As] Āmítuófó [is] connected [to] all Buddhas, [the Dharma Door of] mindfulness [of] Buddha gathers all [of the] Dharma, [and his Pure Land’s] noble assembly represents all [of the] Saṃgha, [with] one thought [mindful of his name is to] take refuge [in] all.
所以临终时，
未归不急归。
最急乃念佛，
一时具宝粮。
Therefore when approaching [life’s] end, [those] yet [to] take refuge [need] not hastily take refuge. [That] most urgent, therefore, [is to be] mindful [of the] Buddha[‘s name, which is] at once complete [with the] Triple Gem [and] Three Provisions.

[M]erely having taken refuge is not enough for reaching Pure Land. What really required is to give rise to the Three Provisions of unshakeable Faith in Āmítuófó, unwavering Aspiration (Vow) to reach his Pure Land, and the utmost sincere Practice of mindfulness of his name. With utmost sincerity that holds the provisions together… we can surely guide one another to Pure Land! …‘The Three Provisions For Rebirth In Pure Land’ form the true ‘passport’ for Pure Land… Yet, for the Three Provisions to be powerful, a strong sense of refuge is needed. Even if refuge was not ceremonially taken before the end of life, there should be a genuine sense of faithful refuge in Āmítuófó, who also stands for the Triple Gem in a 3-in-1 way, representing all Buddhas, the Dharma and the Saṃgha.
