How To Far Depart From Sicknesses And Demons
病与魔，皆由宿业所致，汝但能至诚恳切念佛，则病自痊愈，魔自远离。
Sicknesses [and] demonic [disturbances, are] all due [to] past karmas those caused. [If] you [are] however, able [to be] with earnestness [and] utmost sincerity, mindful [of Āmítuó]fó [阿弥陀佛], then [will] sicknesses naturally completely heal, [and] demons naturally far depart.
倘汝心不至诚，或起邪淫等不正之念，则汝之心，全体堕于黑暗之中，故致魔鬼搅扰。
If your mind [is] not utmost sincere, perhaps giving rise [to] sexual misconduct [and] other thoughts that [are] not upright, then [will that] mind of yours, [its] entire essence, fall into [that] of darkness within, thus leading [to] demonic [and] ghostly disturbances.
汝宜于念佛毕回向时，为宿世一切怨家回向，令彼各沾汝念佛利益，超生善道。
You should, when [with] mindfulness [of Āmítuó]fó finished dedicating, for past lives’ all enemies dedicate, [to] enable those [to] each benefit [from] mindfulness [of Āmítuó]fó’s benefits, [and be] reborn [in] good paths.
此外概不理会，彼作声，也不理会作怕怖，不作声，也不理会作欢喜。
Besides this, all [should] not [be] paid attention [to. If there are] those making sounds, also [do] not pay attention [to that] made [to make you] fear. [If] not making sounds, also [do] not pay attention [and] become joyful.
但至诚恳切念，自然业障消，而福慧俱皆增长矣。
Only [with] earnestness [and] sincerity reciting, naturally [will] karmic obstacles [be] eliminated, and blessings [and] wisdom together all increase [and] grow.

How To Read Buddhist Sūtras And Treatises
看经典切不可照今人读书之毫不恭敬，必须如佛祖圣贤降临一般，方有实益。
[When] reading sūtras, [there] absolutely must not [be] according to today’s people’s reading of books, not [with the] slightest reverence. [It] must [be] like [the] Buddhas, Patriarchs [and] Noble Virtuous [Ones have] descended [and] arrived the same, then having true benefits.
汝果能如是，则心地正大光明，彼邪鬼邪神，便无地可安身矣。
You, if able [to do] thus, [then will your] mind ground [be] upright [and] great [with] bright light. Those evil ghosts [and] evil gods, [will] then [be] without ground [that] can [used to] make [their] home.
倘汝心先邪，则以邪招邪，何能令彼远离不扰也？
If your mind [is] first evil, then with evil summoning evil, how [is this] able [to] enable [you to] far depart [from] not [being] disturbed?
他心通，鬼神虽有，小而且近，若业尽情空，则犹如宝镜当台，有形斯映。
[On knowing] others’ minds’ [super]normal [power], although ghosts [and] gods have [them, they are] minor [and] moreover [when] nearby. If [with] karmas exhausted [and] passions emptied, then similar to [a] treasure mirror supported [on a] stand, having forms thus reflecting.
汝不至心念佛，而却研究此之真相，不知此心，便成魔种。
You, [if] not utmost sincerely mindful [of Āmítuó]fó, yet however researching [the] truth of this, not knowing this mind, then becomes [a] demonic seed.
譬如宝镜，无丝毫尘垢，自会照天照地。
For example, like [a] treasure mirror, without a very small amount of dirt, naturally can reflect [the] sky [and] reflect [the] earth.
汝之心被尘垢封蔽深固，而欲得此，如尘封深厚之镜，断不能发光，或有发者，乃妖光，非镜光也。
[With that] mind of yours by dirt sealed [and] covered deep [and] firm, yet desiring [to] attain this, [is] like [with a] mirror that [is by] dust sealed deeply [and] thickly, [that is] absolutely not able [to] shine, perhaps having that shining, thus [being] demonic light, not [the] mirror’s light.
此事且置之度外，如堕水火，如救头然以念佛，则无业魔不消矣。
[With] this matter moreover, set aside [from] consideration, like falling [into] water [and] fire, like saving [your] head [from] burning with mindfulness [of Āmítuó]fó, then [will there be] no karmas [and] demonic [disturbances that will] not [be] eliminated.
