摄生三愿偈
Verses On The Three Vows For Gathering Sentient Beings
[1] 阿弥陀佛，摄生三愿，普被三根，上中与下。
[1] Āmítuófó’s three vows for gathering sentient beings universally covers their three roots, the high, middle and low.
[2] 第十九愿，度上根者。第二十愿，度中根者。
[2] The nineteenth vow delivers those of the high root. The twentieth vow delivers those of the middle root.
[3] 第十八愿，度下根者。若弃一愿，即舍一根。
[3] The eighteenth vow delivers those of the low root. If relinquishing one vow, this then abandons one root.
[4] 初修净业，应先注重，第十八愿，确保得生。
[4] Those first cultivating pure karmas should first pay attention to the eighteenth vow, to ensure attainment of birth in the Pure Land.
[5] 续修学时，亦应参考，二十十九，试发大心。
[5] When continuing learning and cultivating, they should also refer to the twentieth and nineteenth vows, to try giving rise to great(er) minds [with the greatest being the Bodhi Mind: 菩提心].
[6] 唯瞄十八，最低门槛，若跨不过，如何得生？
[6] Only aiming at meeting the criteria of the eighteenth vow, the lowest threshold, if not crossing over, how to attain birth there?
[7] 若瞄中上，必过十八，保证得生，更速成佛。
[7] If aiming at the middle and high, definitely crossing the eighteenth threshold, guaranteeing attainment of birth, and even quicker accomplishment of Buddhahood.
[8] 安住十八，虽能安心，三愿皆摄，得最大安。
[8] Although peacefully abiding on the eighteenth vow, is able to settle the mind, those by the three vows all gathered, attain the greatest peace.
阿弥陀佛第十八愿
Āmítuófó’s Eighteenth Vow
设我得佛，十方众生，至心信乐，欲生我国，乃至十念，若不生者，不取正觉。唯除五逆，诽谤正法。
If I attain Buddhahood, of the ten directions’ sentient beings, with the sincere mind of joyful faith, desiring birth in my land, and even with ten thoughts, if there are those not born there, I shall not obtain Right Awakening. Only excluded are those with the Five Heinous Transgressions, who slandered the Right Dharma.
阿弥陀佛第十九愿
Āmítuófó’s Nineteenth Vow
设我得佛，十方众生，发菩提心，修诸功德，至心发愿，欲生我国，临寿终时，假令不与大众围绕现其人前者，不取正觉。
If I attain Buddhahood, of the ten directions’ sentient beings, for those who give rise to the Bodhi Mind, cultivate all meritorious virtues, with the sincere mind give rise to the aspiration, desiring birth in my land, when approaching life’s end, if I do not, with a great assembly surround and appear before these persons, I shall not obtain Right Awakening.
阿弥陀佛第二十愿
Āmítuófó’s Twentieth Vow
设我得佛，十方众生，闻我名号，系念我国，植众德本，至心回向，欲生我国，不果遂者，不取正觉。
If I attain Buddhahood, should the ten directions’ sentient beings, who hear my name, be continually mindful of my land, plant all virtuous roots, with the sincere mind dedicating, desiring birth in my land, have those not with this fruit fulfilled, I shall not obtain Right Awakening.
