The Immeasurable Life Sūtra Taught By The Pure Land Patriarchs

皆以康僧铠之《无量寿经》为准则焉。¹
既有《无量寿经》，何无事生事？²

净土宗十三祖印光大师

All [are] with Saṅghavarman’s [translation] of [the] Immeasurable Life Sūtra as [the] standard only.¹ Already having [the] Immeasurable Life Sūtra, why, without reason, create trouble [by editing and compiling (会集) it with other versions]?²

无事生事偈
Verses On Creating Trouble Without Reason

若会集后，
同等殊胜，
为何会集，
无事生事？

[1]

If after editing and compiling,
with that equally excellent,
why edit and compile,
without reason, create trouble?

[2]

若会集后，
不如愿译，
为何会集，
无事生事？

[2]

If after editing and compiling,
with that not as good as the original translation,
why edit and compile,
without reason, create trouble?

[3]

凡夫会集，
却更殊胜，
决不可能：
无事生事！

[3]

If after ordinary beings’ editing and compiling,
yet with that even more excellent,
this is definitely not possible,
without reason, creating trouble!
