[12] Dharma Master [Shǎo]kāng
唐少康，缙云人，十五通《法华》、《楞严》。
[The] Táng [Dynasty’s] Shǎokāng, [was a] Jìnyún person, [at] fifteen [years old] proficient [in the] Dharma Flower [and] Śūraṅgama Sūtra.
贞元中，见白马寺内文字放光，探之，乃善导和尚《西方化导文》也。
Within Zhēnyuán’s [first year] [i.e. 785 C.E.], [he] saw Báimǎ [i.e. White Horse] Monastery inside, [to have] words emitting light. Searching [for] it, thus [being] Most Venerable Shàndǎo’s Text [For] Transformative Guidance [To Reach The] Western [Pure Land].
因祝曰：「若净土有缘，乞更放光。」祝讫，光明转炽。
Following [his] prayer [for] blessings, [he] said, ‘If [with] Pure Land having affinity, [I] beg [you to] again emit light.’ [With] prayers [for] blessings stopping, [the] bright light transformed [to be] blazing.
遂诣长安善导和尚影堂瞻礼，忽见遗像升空。
Thereupon visiting Cháng’ān’s Most Venerable Shàndǎo’s image hall [for] reverencing [and] worshipping, [he] suddenly saw [his] bequeathed image rise [into the] air.
后至新定，先化小儿念佛。
Later arriving [at] Xīndìng, [he] first transformed small children [to] recite [Āmítuó]fó.
初时念佛一声者，与一文。
Initially, [for] those reciting [Āmítuó]fó one time, [he] gave one wén [coin].
继而能念十声者，与一文。
Afterwards, [for] those able [to] recite ten times, [he] gave one wén [coin].
年余，无少长贵贱，皆知念佛。
[In] more [than a] year, regardless [of the] young [or] old, noble [or] lowly, all knew [how to] recite [Āmítuó]fó.
复于乌龙山建净土道场，策励学者。
Returning to Wūlóng Mountain, [he] built [a] Pure Land place [for realising the] path, [and] encouraging students.
后二十一年十月三日，嘱道俗曰：「当于净土，起欣乐心。于阎浮提，起厌离心。」
Later, [on the] twenty-first year’s [i.e. 805 C.E.] tenth month’s third day, [he] instructed monastics [and] laypersons, saying, ‘[You] should for [the] Pure Land, give rise [to the] joyous mind. For Jambudvīpa, give rise [to] revulsed renunciation’s mind.’
遂放异光数道而逝。
Thereupon, emitting extraordinary light [with] numerous rays, [he] then departed.
