With Giving Rise To Five Kinds Of Minds, Is Definite Rebirth (In Āmítuófó’s Pure Land) 发五种心决定往生 (阿弥陀佛净土)

[1] 厌离心——此界八苦交煎,怨家会聚故。
[1] Revulsed Renunciation’s Mind: This world [is with the] eight sufferings intersecting [and] compelling, [and] enemies assembling thus.

[Note 1: The eight sufferings (八苦) are the physical sufferings (身苦) of (i) birth (生), (ii) ageing (老), (iii) sickness (病) and (iv) death (死), and the mental sufferings (心苦) of (v) separation from the beloved (爱别离), (vi) meeting the hated (怨憎会), (vii) not attaining the sought (求不得) and (viii) blazing of the Five Aggregates (五蕴炽盛) (of forms [色], feelings [受], perceptions [想], mental formations [行] and consciousness [识]).]

[2] 欣慕心——西方万福庄严,寿命无尽故。
[2] Joyful Admiration’s Mind: [The] Western [Pure Land Of Ultimate Bliss (极乐世界) is with] ten thousand blessings adorned, [and] lifespan inexhaustible thus.

[3] 报恩心——父母师长洪恩,唯佛可报故。
[3] Repayment [Of] Kindness’ Mind: [With my] father [and] mother’s, teachers [and] seniors’ great kindness, only [by becoming a] Buddha, can [I] repay [them] thus.

[4] 恐惧心——若不往生,必受三途业果故。
[4] Fear’s Mind: If [I am] not reborn [there, I will] definitely receive [the] three paths’ [evil] karmic fruits thus.

[Note 2: Three paths (三途): Three evil paths (三恶道) of hell-beings (地狱众生), hungry ghosts (饿鬼) and animals (畜生),]

[5] 慈悯心——受苦众生,吾当发心救度故。
[5] Compassionate Sympathy’s Mind: [For] suffering sentient beings, I will give rise [to the] mind [to] save [and] deliver [them] thus.
