Planchette Writing Is Not The Right Dharma, While Monastics Drinking Alcohol And Eating Meat Are Without Excuses 扶乩非正法,酒肉僧无籍口

(四)扶乩,也非正法。多是灵鬼假冒。

(5) Planchette writing [is] also not [of the] Right Dharma. Most are [with other] spirits [and] ghosts impersonating.

[Note 1: Planchette writing is done with a stick held by a medium of sorts, that ‘automatically writes messages’ supposedly from the gods or the deceased, in sand or ash from burnt incense. Such writing might also be subconsciously written by the one holding the stick through self-suggestion.]

至于吃酒吃肉之僧尼,乃自救不了之地狱种子。

As for those monks [and] nuns who drink alcohol [and] eat meat, [they are] thus [with] those hells’ seeds, unable [to] save themselves.

[Note 2: If there is no sincere repentance (忏悔) practised in time, with connection to the Buddha for blessings, to help eliminate their heavy evil karmas (恶业), monastics who have vowed to, yet fail to abstain from eating animals‘ flesh and drinking intoxicating beverages, are bound for fall into the hells.]

何可籍口彼等之行为,而指责佛教乎。

How can [there be] excusing [of] those kinds [of] behavior, yet finding fault [with the] Buddha’s teachings?

[Note 3: Since the precepts and discipline (戒律) were regulated by the Buddha out of perfect compassion and wisdom for the welfare of one and all, when these rules are broken by those who have committed to them, this is clearly the fault of the preceptees, not the precepts themselves.]
