[121] How My Youngest Daughter Departed In Her ‘Sleep’

Hello! My young daughter admired you very much. Unfortunately, she has passed away.

We originally wanted to go to practise Niànfó (i.e. be mindful of the Buddha’s name: Āmítuófó) with you every week. However, she suddenly developed a cough and fainted.

I called for an ambulance to bring her to the hospital. The doctor said that she could not be saved and could only be left to depart naturally.

Because the potassium in her heart was too high, after a week, her heart gradually stopped, as she passed away.

She had departed in her ‘sleep’. The doctor told me that she left this world painlessly and peacefully, and became free from the ocean of suffering. As he has seen many patients, and only a few were able to die in their ‘sleep’, he told me to not be sad.

[Note 1: Even if seemingly departing unconsciously, dying and rebirth are seamless parts of a conscious process, of the consciousness leaving the body. Thus, the consciousness is still able to Niànfó, to connect to Āmítuófó, to be received and guided by him for rebirth in his Pure Land.]

She often went to Buddhist temples to practise chanting. I truly believe Āmítuófó had come to receive her.

My young daughter liked listening to your sūtra lectures and found her faith. Thank you very much for teaching her to practise Niànfó. Thank you!

[Note 2: It does not matter how old or young one reaches Pure Land, as long as it is indeed reached in time.]

Please be mindful of your speech, Amituofo!
