最妙「回向净土」法
[80] [The] Most Wonderful Method [Of] ‘Dedicating Towards Pure Land’
「回向」者,以己所修念诵种种各功德,若任所作,则随得各种之人天福报。今将所作得人天福报之因,回转归向于往生西方极乐世界,以作超凡入圣、了生脱死,以至将来究竟成佛之果,不使直得人天之福而已。
That ‘dedicating towards’, [is] with one’s those cultivated recitation [and] all kinds [of] each meritorious virtue, thus relying on those done, then accordingly attaining each kind of human [and] heavenly [beings’] blessed reward. Now, with those created [and] attained causes of human [and] heavenly blessed rewards, turned around [and] returned towards rebirth [in the] Western [Pure] Land [Of] Ultimate Bliss, with [this] becoming those effects of transcending [the] ordinary [and] entering [the] noble, liberating [from the cycle of] birth [and] death, [and] up to [the] future ultimate accomplishing [of] Buddhahood, not enabling direct attaining of human [and] heavenly [beings’] blessings only.
用一「回」字,便见其有决定不随世情之意。用一「向」字,便见其有决定冀望出世之方。
Using [the] one ‘dedicating’ word, then seeing there is [the] wish of determination [to] not follow worldly passions. Using [the] one ‘towards’ word, then seeing there is [the] direction of determination [and] hope [to] transcend [the] world.
所谓「回因向果」、「回事向理」、「回自向他」也。
[There are] so-called ‘dedicating causes towards effects’, ‘dedicating practices towards principles’, [and] ‘dedicating self towards others’.
所作功德,人天因也,「回而向涅槃之果」。
[There is with] those created meritorious virtues, ‘[with] human [and] heavenly [beings’] cause, dedicating then towards [the] fruit of Nirvāṇa’.
所作功德,生灭事也,「回而向不生不灭之实相妙理」。
[There is with] those created meritorious virtues, [with] arising [and] ceasing practices, ‘dedicating then towards true form’s wonderful principles, that [are] non-arising [and] non-ceasing’.
所作功德,原属自行,「回而向法界一切众生」,即发愿、立誓、决定所趋之名词耳。
[There is with] those created meritorious virtues, originally belonging [to] personal practices, ‘dedicating then towards [the] Dharma realm’s all sentient beings’, then [with] those phrases [for] giving rise [to] vows, [and] establishing vows, [with] determination [for] that tending towards.
有三种义:一、「回向真如实际」,心心契合,此即「回事向理」之义。
[There] are three kinds [of] meanings. First, ‘dedicating towards True Thusness’ reality’, [with the] mind [and] mental conditions agreeing with one another, this then [is the] meaning of ‘dedicating practices towards principles’.
二、「回向佛果菩提」,念念圆满,此即「回因向果」之义。
Second, ‘dedicating towards [the] Buddha fruit’s Bodhi’, [with] thought after thought perfect [and] complete, this then [is the] meaning of ‘dedicating causes towards effects’.
三、「回向法界众生」,同生净土,此即「回自向他」之义。
Third, ‘dedicating towards [the] Dharma realm’s sentient beings’, [to] together [be] born [in the] Pure Land, this then [is the] meaning of ‘dedicating self towards others’.
回向之义大矣哉!回向之法虽不一,然必以「回向净土」,为唯一不二之最妙法。
[The] meanings of ‘dedicating towards’ [are] great! [The] methods of ‘dedicating towards’, although [are] not one, however, [there] must [be] with ‘dedicating towards [rebirth in] Pure Land’, as that most wonderful method, [the] only one, not [with a] second [one].
以其余大愿,不生净土,每难成就。若生净土,无愿不成。以此之故,凡一切所作功德,即别有所期,亦必须又复「回向净土」也。
With those other great vows, [if] not born [in the] Pure Land, [it is] very often difficult [to] accomplish [them]. If born [in the] Pure Land, [it is with] no vow not accomplishable. With this then [as the] reason, [with] all those created meritorious virtues, then having others that [are] hoped [for, they] also must again, [be] ‘dedicated towards Pure Land’.
