念佛至极，亦能见性
[273] [With] Mindfulness [Of] Buddha Arriving [At The] Utmost, Also Able [To] See [One’s] Nature
念佛所重在往生。念之至极，亦能明心见性，非念佛于现世了无所益也。
That [which] mindfulness [of] Buddha emphasises is rebirth [in Pure Land. With] mindfulness that arrives [at the] utmost, [one is] also able [to] understand [the] mind [and] see [one’s] nature, not [with] mindfulness [of] Buddha in [this] present life completely without that [which] benefits.
（念极情忘，心空佛现。则于现生之中，便能亲证三昧。见《正编·与徐福贤书》）
([With] mindfulness utmost, passions forgotten, [and the] mind emptied, [the] Buddha appears. Then within [this] present life, then able [to] personally realise samādhi. See ‘First Compilation’s Letter For Xú Fúxián’)
昔明教嵩禅师，日课十万声观音圣号，后于世间经书，悉皆不读而知。
[The] past Wise Teachings’ [Great Master] [明教大师] Chán Master [Qì]sōng [契嵩禅师], [who had] daily chanting [of] ten thousand recitations [of] Contemplator [Of The World’s] Sounds [Bodhisattva’s] sacred name [i.e. (Námó) Guān(shì)yīn Púsà ([南无]观[世]音菩萨)], [was] later with [the] world’s sūtra books, all not read yet known.
[Note: Mindfulness of Buddha (念佛) with Āmítuófó‘s (阿弥陀佛) name can have the same effect, as ‘mindfulness of Buddha opens wisdom’ (念佛开智慧), by connecting the Buddha’s blessings to our Buddha-nature (佛性), for realising its innate wisdom.]
