[40] When The Mind Attains Its Uprightness, The Body Follows To Then Be Upright

[The] Great Awakened World-Honoured [One, was] good [at] curing sentient beings’ physical [and] mental kinds [of] sicknesses, [and] good [at] enabling [the] heavens below [to have] great peace, [for] people [to have] peace [and] bliss.

What [are] those mental sicknesses? Greed, anger [and] delusion are [thus]. Already having these sicknesses, then [will the] mind not attain its uprightness, then [will] thoughts of chasing passions [and] violating reason, ferociously then arise. [With] these thoughts already arisen, [there] will [be] desires [to] comply with those one desire, then [with the] inferior minds of killing, stealing [and] sexual misconduct, directly descending [to] appear [as] all things’ reality. [This is] so-called due [to] confusions creating [evil] karmas, [and] due [to evil] karmas attracting suffering. Passing dust specks [of] kalpas, without having liberation’s date.

[The] Thus Come [One], sympathising [with] them, according [to the] sicknesses of those sentient beings, for them prescribed medicine. For them speaking [these] words, ‘Geed, anger [and] delusion’s mind, [is] not your original mind. Your that original mind, [is] completely bright, pure [and] wonderful, like [a] pure bright mirror, completely without one object. Having objects then before [it], without [those] not completely reflected. [With] objects coming not rejecting, [and] objects coming not retaining. Guard my naturally true [nature, to] not follow objects [to be] transformed. [Those with] confused minds chasing states, are named [as] fools. [With] backs [to the] dusts [and] uniting [with] awakening, enable entering [of the] noble stream.’

People, if knowing this, [their] minds’ sicknesses [will] then heal. [With the] mind’s sicknesses already healed, [the] body’s sicknesses [are] without roots. Even if having coldness [and] heat felt [and] touched, [they are] also without danger.

[With the] mind already attaining its uprightness, [the] body [will] follow it [to] then [be] upright. With [them] already without passionate thoughts of greed, anger [and] delusion, [with] what cause then having bad behaviour of killing, stealing [and] sexual misconduct?

[If] people [are] each thus, then [with the] people [as] compatriots, [and living] beings, together with [them, as] one regarded [with the] same benevolence, again, how [can there] be fighting [for] lands [and] fighting [for] cities, [with] matters of killing one another?

Therefore, of ancient kings [and] ministers, those clever, wise [and] farsighted, [they are] without those not respected, protected [and] supported, with them able [to] lead governance [to be] stable when yet [to be] chaotic, [and] protect [the] country when yet [to be] dangerous. Not recognising [and] not knowing [this], leading [to] great peace when within [that] without forms [and] traces.
