Giving rise [to] Aspiration [or ‘making of vows’, should [be] at when morning [and/or] evening [practice of] mindfulness [of] Buddha ends.
[For practice of] ‘Early Morning’s Ten Recitations’, likewise first [be] mindful [of] Buddha, [with] giving rise [of] Aspiration after.
Perhaps using [the] ‘Short Pure Land Verses’ [i.e. ‘Repentance Master Cíyún’s Pure Land Verses’《慈云忏主净土文》].
If body [and] mind having spare time, [you] should use Great Master Liánchí’s ‘Newly Defined Pure Land Verses’ [i.e. ‘Verses (For) Giving Rise (To) Aspiration (For Birth In The) Western (Pure Land)’《西方发愿文》].
[As] these verses’ phrases [and] principles [are] comprehensive, [they are] as ancient [and] modern [times’] foremost [Aspiration Verses].
[It] should [be] known [that] giving rise [to] Aspiration [when] reading [the] verses, [is] then enabling [to] rely [on the] verses, [to] give rise [to] Aspiration, not with reading [the] verses one time, immediately as giving rise [to] Aspiration.
[Note 1: When with Practice (行) of mindfulness of Buddha (念佛) properly, it is already powered by Faith (信) and Aspiration (愿). However, reciting Aspiration Verses (原文) help to express giving rise of Aspiration (发愿) more sincerely, clearly, firmly and formally. (To have Aspiration, there has to be Faith first.)
Note 2: Before practice of mindfulness of Buddha, there can be practice of repentance (忏悔) to settle the mind with the ‘Repentance Verse’《忏悔文》first, for more fruitful mindfulness of Buddha next. After practice of giving rise of Aspiration, there should be practice of dedication (回向) of meritorious virtues with the ‘Merits’ Dedication Verse’《回向文》.]
