The Pure Land Dharma Door Is The Most Superb, Complete & Sudden Great Vehicle Teaching 净土法门乃最胜圆顿大乘教

华严经普贤行愿品。以十大愿王,导归极乐。

[The] Flower Adornment [i.e. Avataṃsaka] Sūtra’s Universal Virtue[s] Chapter, [is] with [Samantabhadra Bodhisattva’s] Ten[th] Great King [Of] Vows, [for] guiding [towards] refuge [in the Pure Land Of] Ultimate Bliss.

[Note 1: The Flower Adornment Sūtra is the most voluminous and thus detailed scriptural teaching about the path to Buddhahood, first taught by the Buddha upon attainment of Buddhahood to those ready for the Bodhisattva path towards Buddhahood.]

读此知念佛求生西方一法,乃华严一生成佛之末后一著。

Reading this, [it should be] known [that this] one Dharma [Door of] mindfulness [of] Buddha [to] seek birth [in the] Western [Pure Land], then [is] Flower Adornment [Sūtra’s] final move [for] accomplishing Buddhahood [in] one lifetime.

[Note 2: The chapter above is the sūtra’s conclusion, which states the Ten Great King Of Vows, which are called so as they are supreme vows upheld by Bodhisattvas. The last and Tenth Great Vow is the aspiration to personally reach the Pure Land Of Ultimate Bliss, and to personally guide all beings to reach it too, so as to expedite the progress of one and all towards Buddhahood. The method to reach it is via mindfulness of Buddha. Reaching it before dying, so as to seamlessly perfect Dharma learning and practice there enables attainment of Buddhahood in this very lifetime.]

实十方三世诸佛因中自利,果上利他之最胜方便也。

[This] truly [is, of the] ten directions’ [and] three periods’ all Buddhas’, [when] within causal [ground, for] self-benefiting, [and when on the] fruition [ground, for] benefiting others, [their] most supreme skilful [means].

[Note 3: Being the ultimate skilful means, the Pure Land Dharma Door was practised by all Buddhas of all time and space to benefit themselves when they were practising the Bodhisattva path. It is also taught by all Buddhas of all time and space to benefit others’ practising of the Bodhisattva path after they themselves have attained Buddhahood. Even though all Buddhas have accomplished their own Pure Lands, they unanimously most highly and most frequently recommend Amitābha Buddha’s (Āmítuófó) Pure Land for refuge, as it is the easiest to enter, yet connected to all their Pure Lands too.]

彼妄谓净土法门,为权渐小乘者。皆毁谤华严,及谤佛谤法谤僧之极重罪人也。

[Of] those [who] recklessly say [the] Pure Land Dharma Door, as [a] Provisional, Gradual [and] Small Vehicle [teaching], all [of them have] slandered [the] Flower Adornment [Sūtra], and [are] extremely heavy transgressors, [who have] slandered [the] Buddhas, slandered [the] Dharma, [and] slandered [the] Saṃgha.

[Note 4: The above is slanderous as the Pure Land Dharma Door is truly a Complete (圆), Sudden (顿) and Great Vehicle (大乘) teaching, able to swiftly lead all the way to Buddhahood. It is thus taught by all Buddhas, as an essential Dharma Door, for the Saṃgha, who teach and practise it too. Therefore, to slander this Dharma Door is to slander the Triple Gem completely, which creates great transgressions bound for Avīci hell if not repented for in time. For those already with such heavy transgressions, sincere learning, practice and sharing of the Pure Land Dharma Door, that connects to Āmítuófó’s immeasurable meritorious virtues to eradicate such strong negative karma will be able to prevent fall into hell.]
