Record Of Jīnshì’s Rebirth 金奭往生记

Sòng · Jīnshì

With birth details unclear, Jīnshì was with catching of fish as his livelihood.

Later, he changed his livelihood, and severed eating of meat and fish, every day upholding mindfulness of Buddha’s name for ten thousand times, without breaking off.

One day, Jīnshì suddenly told his family members, ‘I see Amitā[bha] Buddha, Contemplator Of The World’s Sounds Bodhisattva and Great Power Arrived Bodhisattva have all come! I am going to be reborn in the Pure Land Of Ultimate Bliss!’

The next day, again he said, ‘There is a golden lotus flower that has come to receive and guide me.’

Thereupon burning incense to offer to Buddha, he sat serenely, with both hands in the Samādhi Mudra, departed to be reborn [in Amitā(bha) Buddha’s Pure Land]

At this very moment, heavenly music sounded in the air, as extraordinary fragrance filled the room, passing one entire day, still not dispersing. This matter happened in the Northern Sòng Huīzōng Zhènghé County’s sixth year. (1116 C.E.) (Pure Land Text)
