一法偈
阿弥陀佛,
万德洪名。
持名一法,
尽摄万法。
Verse On One Method
[As] Āmítuófó [is the]
great name [of all] 10,000 [meritorious] virtues,
[the] one method [of] upholding [his] name
completely gathers [all] 10,000 methods
[of practice for Buddhahood].

举名者，佛有无量德。今但四字名号，足以该之，以弥陀即是全体一心，心包众德。
On upholding [the] name [of Āmítuófó (阿弥陀佛), Amitā(bha)] Buddha [has] immeasurable [meritorious] virtues. Now only [with his] four-worded name [recited sincerely, this is a] sufficient and complete [practice]. With [Ā]mítuó[fó] being the same as [this] entire wholeheartedness, [the] mind includes all [his] virtues [similarly].
常乐我净，本觉始觉，真如佛性，菩提涅槃，百千万名，皆此一名， 摄无不尽。专持者，众生学佛，亦有无量行法。
Eternity, Bliss, Self, Purity, Original Awakening, Actualised Awakening, True Suchness, Buddha-nature, Bodhi [and] Nirvāṇa, [these] thousands [of] millions [of] names, [are] all [in] this one name, [as] gathered without [that] not complete. Those [who] focus [upon] upholding [it, as] sentient beings learning [to be] Buddhas, [they] likewise [will] have immeasurable practice methods.
今但持名一法足以该之，以持名即是持此一心，心该百行，四谛、六度乃至八万四千恒沙微尘，一切行门，摄无不尽，故名守约。[守约: 简易可行]
Now only upholding [the] name, [this] one method [is] sufficient and complete, with upholding [the] name being the same as upholding this one mind, [with the] mind complete [with a] hundred practices, [the] Four [Noble] Truths, Six Perfections and even [the] 84,000 Ganges’ sands’ dust motes, [of] all practice doors, [as] gathered without [that] not complete, thus [is this method] named [as] easy [and] feasible.
