Question: I understand that once Āmítuófó (Amitābha Buddha) appears with Niànfó (practice of mindfulness of his name), no karmic creditors can impersonate Āmítuófó. But can karmic creditors appear as Āmítuófó to distract us on our deathbed while we are still in the process of powering up our Three Provisions (of Faith, Aspiration and Practice) to connect to Āmítuófó?
Answer: There are many cases, both ancient and contemporary, of how those disturbed by unseen beings were able to, within one single sincere chant of Āmítuófó protect themselves while disturbing beings back off or flee.
We should thus practise Niànfó well in everyday life, to be able to connect to Āmítuófó swiftly in emergencies, including when departing from this life. Then, we will not have to worry.
Also, we should NOT stop Niànfó when Āmítuófó finally appears. So that if is not Āmítuófó, he or she will go away. We are then always safe with sincere Niànfó, till we reach Āmítuófó’s Pure Land.
